Expectations for the new season

The new Malaysia Super League season will be starting soon on 8th January 2013 and i expecting improvement in few areas in term of football organizations, management and also the technical aspect as well.

Top of my priority list would be, Malaysia must find way to improve their position in the FIFA ranking. Currently doomed somewhere 158 or so, I expect FAM through their Technical comitee to map out a comprehensive plan for the national team. A clearer direction, continous progress and building winning momentum would help to collect valuable points. If everything going well, i expect Malaysia would reach the 130 region of FIFA ranking.

Secondly, I expect no more delay in salary payment for players and official in all leagues. Profesional organizations must deliver accordingly, as salary is the most crucial part in player's life. They need security, in time payment so that they could have a very peaceful mind and help them to concentrate on football with 100% commitment.

Third, i expect no players, officials involve in the match fixing activities. Please reject any attempt/offer from the bookies. These people are the true enemies of football. Match fixing is the largest enemy of football after the hooligans. I hope teams will pay better salary, incentives, bonuses, benefits to the players and officials. Integrity campaign should continue and consistent.

Fourth, i expect the rise numbers of attendance during Super League & Premier League games. More passionate crowd in the stadiums to support our league, our clubs, our football. I suggest teams to introduce seasonal ticket holder for supporters, so that fans could pay match tickets with discount price. This will encourage fans to be engaged with the team.

Lastly, I expect the level of match fitness and technical ability will be increased to another level. This is due to to the arrival of some top class coaches and foreign players in our Super League. Players ability on the pitch would change the larger picture of the games, as more different style of play will be deployed.

The Malaysian football fans deserve a better outcome from the Leagues, as well as from the National Team. We expect a growing graph, not a declining one.

Big consideration for Asia Cup qualifier

No more speculation. Its time for us to get behind the national team and support them during home and away games.

In one month time, the national team will play in Doha for their Asia Cup qualifier opener. Forget the history, forget the home team's reputation. Malaysia must go there with pride and great self belief.

But i hope the team will not play with the same game plan. I don't want to see our boys spend the entire 90 minutes chasing shadows. The team need to start playing real football, keeping the ball collectively as long as they can. Do not give the ball away cheaply. To play with such higher level of technique and composure, it will require a specific set of players with specific mentality. Players who can keep the ball in close control and under extreme presure. Do we have the right players for the job?

A big consideration for the head coach is, the need to add steel and physical presence in the squad. Tall centre backs and tall striker are needed for this middle east mission. Players with great endurance to absorb an expected tough aerial challenges, great energy in one to one situation. I suggest to recall experience and much muscular players to cope with the demand of the game that will be raised by the opponent. Shukor Adan and ATM's  Taj Tajuddin to be the rear guard, while rookie striker Muhd Afiq Azmi should be given a chance to play as a lone striker.

A combination of experience, technical ability, physical qualities and tactical discipline would be the key for our middle east adventure. Time to change, dare to change. My personal choice if everybody is fit and eligible:

Farizal Marlias (GK), Mahali Jasuli, Shukor Adan, Rizal Fahmi, Asraruddin putra, Gary Steven Robbart, Shakir Shaari, Nurfarhan Muhamad, S kunanlan, Nurshahrul Idlan  Talaha, Muhd Afiq Azmi.

Reserve: Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Amiridzwan Taj Tajuddin, Bunyamin Umar, Zairo, Safee Sali, Indra Putra mahyuddin, Ashaari Shamsudin.

2 biggest failure by Harimau Malaya

Deep disappointment still dominating our feelings since that tragic elimination day in Bangkok. But to face the reality, we must soldier on. The fact that our team were not properly prepared for this year's edition.

Poor results in friendlies, poor players selection and poor tactics lead us to where we are now. We must have the courage to forget the defeat, keep our heads up, and look forward to the future. But the team's management must look into these 2 biggest letdown. I can't say it was something can't be forgiven, but the management and the players must think about this seriuosly...and they owed us big time!

Firstly, the failure to defend the cup. The biggest reason behind it was because poor players selection. Thailand have around 6 to 7 players from their Thai Premier League champions, Mhuang Thong FC. While Malaysia have only one treble winner player in the starting eleven. The squad selection largely based on past reputation, rather than based on merit or current form.

Our engine room were marshalled by an out of form Selangor playmaker, who finished the 2012 season empty handed. He himself dropped several times by Irfan Bakti during the season eventhough he was fit to play. His fellow midfielder was struggling domesticaly with the relegated Kedah. So much talk about the absence of so many treble winners Kelantan players, notably Badhri Radzi, Indra Putra and Norfarhan Mohd.

For me, the national team must be build around a winning club in the league. The Malaysian head coach was never tried Badhri, Indra and Farhan during the team's friendly games. Why? Can you imagine if Badhri, Shakir Shaari, Indra and Farhan playing for Harimau Malaya? It would be totaly different tune of football, a more inventive side which is always looked hungry for success.

Secondly, The team failed to respect the fans by not wearing BLACK & YELLOW Jersey. A true colour of a tiger. If any of you think that this is not supposed to be an issue at first place, then you might need to remember that thousands of fans spend their money to buy the original kit of BLACK & YELLOW from the day it was launched by the main sponsor.

Majority of fans came to the stadium with the B&Y kit, they came with passion, pride and sense of belonging to the team. And majority of them frustrated every time the team came out of the tunnel wearing the blue kit. Does the team management aware of this? or they just ignored the ultras message everytime we sang the Negaraku? The big Tifo displaying a giant B&Y jersey was an indication how much its mean to the fans by wearing that shirt.

These 2 failure need to be addressed urgently. The fans deserve a better performance. The team owed us big time. Please rectify these failures before next year's Asia Cup qualifier which wil be started in february.

Thailand + referee (2) - Malaysia (0)

Malaysia failed to defend the cup after shown the door by the unsporting host country Thailand.

Poor training facility, poor pitch for a semi final international game, and a suprising aid to Thailand from the match referee.

I don't have to discuss on the 43rd minutes incident, i believe everybody saw what happened after series of tv replays. Fadhli shas was unfairly booked for his first card, and did not deserved for the second yellow as well. There was no hard physical contact made between him and that provocative Thai midfielder.

For me, it was the turning point. Playing for the entire 45 minutes with 10 men behind the ball were very tiring. Malaysian players were hardly to play the usual passing game due to the extreme nature of the pitch, very poor surface and very unfit to host an international football game.

I can't blame any Malaysian players, they were working hard. Azamuddin Akil, Nurshahrul, Baddrol, Khyril and gave their all but tonight was not our night. I am very dissapointed with the quality of match officials, they robbed the game from Malaysia. Perhaps AFF should look into this seriously.

Stalemate in KL...as the 'War Elephant' survived from the intimidating Bukit Jalil roar.

Malaysia 1 - Thailand 1

The biggest game in south east asia, and probably the most long awaited football match between the two major football powerhouse in the region, blessed with the heavy rain poured on KL city few hours prior the kick off.

Massive traffic congestions on route to the stadium indicating strong support for the home team, as the fans put their effort to back the team. A nightmare to remember for Thailand was something certain.

75,000 loyal 'Harimau Malaya' supporters showcased the magnificent support with the electrifying atmosphere created around the ground. Thailand players regularly struggled to communicate due to the extreme level of noise generated. And they looked nervous for the opening 20 minutes.

However, the home team failed to capitalised this, the game stayed 0-0 at half time.

With the limitation faced by Dato' due to injuries and some players not 100% fit, I am fully understood why he was forced to field 4-5-1 as Nurshahrul played upfront alone.

The team managed to compete on one to one basis, i have to admire the wonderful work done by Amar Rohidan and Gary Steven Robbart. Baddrol Bakhtiar have little to offer by playing out wide, some of his touches and vision seems faded away. He need to move away and play for bigger Super League clubs to improve his game.

Despite took the lead 2 minutes after the interval, the  home team never looked threatening to double up the lead. Malaysia lost the grip of the game when Dato' revert back to his favourite 4-4-2 as Safee Sali joined Nurshahrul Idlan in attack. The substitution weaken the midfield as Safiq Rahim obviously lack of pace in tracking back the Thailand attackers. They were outnumbered in midfield and that was the turning point where Thailand finally got a grip to the game and has started to play at their strength.

The visiting team slowly building confidence as they sprayed the ball around to stretch Malaysia out wide. The well taken header by Teerasil in 75'minutes was a deserved one to be fair. Malaysia allowed Thailand to increase their influence in the game, oftenly saw the ball moving across in front of the 'D' area. That equaliser also exposed the lack of height in the Malaysian centre backs pair.

There were couple of chances for Safee and Nurshahrul, but a good goalkeeping saved Thailand. A big task for Harimau Malaya in the return leg, as they need a win to progress. A nil nil draw will end Malaysia's campaign in their bid to defend the cup.

I also take this opportunity, to condemn those irresponsible hooligans who launched firecracker towards a section of visiting Thais supporters, and those who launched Lazer attack on the pitch.

The threat of Thailand's Triquetra

The first semi final clash in KL this sunday will have a big influence on the return leg four days later. Thailand will be arrived as firm favourite for this tie as they sealed their group campaign on maximum points.

Their solid back three, supported by reliable pair of wingbacks and protected by the ever effective trio midfielders are Thailand's formidable foundations in this years's edition. Everybody keep talking about Teerasil Dangda and his goalscoring form, but i am more interested in discussing on how to prevent the pass from reaching into his foot.

Thailand displayed a brand of football which i described as 'one level above' the south east asia quality of football. I am a big admirer for Thai Premier League as their clubs constantly involve in the AFC Champions League. The 'War Elephants' always produced decent result in friendlies and the world cup qualifiers. These consistency help them to build a better squad since 2010.

The other reason on why i admire their TPL and also their football philosophy is that simply because  the level of technique and fluid tactical execution on the pitch have made the difficult task  looked easy by them. Its very rare to see Thailand play long and aimless ball, but its something certain that they will find way to play the ball across the floor all the time.

Thailand's main threat will come from deep, the back three will start the move and looking for one of their main link-man, most notably Adul Lahsoh. He is the one who connect the defence into attack. Sit in front of the back three, for me he is the steel in the Thailand's team. Great energy, timely tackle, magnificently closed down the opponents and release the ball early to launch the attack. Malaysia need to stop this guy if we want to see a quiet night for Teerasil.

In the middle of the park, Thailand normally deployed 2 other midfielders beside Adul. If they stick with the previous line up, it would be a triquetra of Adul - Sumanya - Apipoo. These three midfielders are the heart of Thailand's strength as they build their game around them. These are the true supply line for Teerasil beside the wingbacks. For me, their midfielders neat footwork and range of passing skills will be the absolute threat for the Malaysians. If Thailand can secure their authority in midfield, then i would say they will win the game.

For me, the Thais are the favourite for this mouthwatering clash and they are coming to town in great confidence.

The wrath of Harimau Malaya

Malaysia 2 - Indonesia 0

It was pure pleasure watching the dismantled Indonesian team went home, eliminated by our national team. In this side of the world, our rivalry could be as volatile as Egypt - Algeria african derby. But tonight, the team showed greater togetherness, unity and hard work to achieve the badly needed 3 points. And we successfully did that, as the result shows that our football are better than them for the past 3 years.

Strong 70,000 home support gave Malaysia extra injection in term of energy level produced on the pitch. Safiq Rahim showed some improvement by making great effort in chasing loose ball, something he rarely do in the past.

The much questioned Wan Zack Haikal answered his critics by performed brilliantly alongside Man Of The Match Mahali Jasuli on the right flank.

Zubir Azmi did well containing Andik Vermansyah's threat for the entire game, Fadhli Shas consistency remind me of Italy's Andrea Barzagli, While Azamuddin Akil repay his coach's faith by scoring the opener.

But i am still not happy with Safee Sali's performance. Sometimes looked rusty, sometimes looked playfull, and my concern was that he is loosing the predatory instinct in the six yard box. Nurshahrul Idlan's determination was still not enough to justify his Most Valuable Player tag so far.

The players and Malaysian fans deserved to celebrate this victory for at least 24 hours, before they need to focus on semi final clash against Thailand. After all of the provocations by Indonesian supporter's, this sweet victory is the best way to silent the garudas. Garuda have received the backlash from the wrath of HARIMAU MALAYA!

More improvement needed despite the hardfought victory

Laos 1 - Malaysia 4

Difficult job well delivered by the host nation, on the night of must win situation and the entire nation stood by their team to defend the cup at all cost. Suprisingly the size of the crowd for tonight's game was not that bad, as presumed by many after 3-0 defeat at the hands of Singapore.

The introduction of Kelantan pass master Shakir Shaari in deeper role behind skipper Safiq Rahim and the return of fans favourite Mahali Jasuli on the right back transformed Harimau Malaya into a more organized, adventorous side.

Well taken free kick by Safiq Rahim in the first half delighted the home fans and the manner of longer celebration by supporters shows how important the goal was and a big relief for everybody.

However, a careless pass by free kick hero Safiq fell nicely for the opponents and punished the host nation with a neat finish.

I am happy with the result, but i am happier if the team being more clinical in front of goal, converting chances into goal. Safee Sali and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha missed host of chances after chances supplied by Wan Zack haikal and Mahali from the right.

I would like to see the team to improve in term of shooting from distance, move the ball around quicker and supported by off the ball movement.

Good performance by Farizal Marlias, great consistency by Fadhli Shas, fantastic effort by S kunanlan this time as i saw he was moving around intelligently, good level of concentration shown by Aidil.  Azmi Muslim, Safiq Rahim, Nurshahrul, Safee Sali,Wan Zack need to double up their effort in the next game.

Man of the match for me: Shakir Shaari. His presence give more composure in midfield and the team started to play more football than previous game. Great effort defensively, tracking back the strikers, close down the opponents and important tackle in vital areas.

Hoping the team will do well in their final group stage match against Indonesia, which is another must win game for Harimau Malaya.

Tacticaly outdated HM outclassed by The old enemy on home soil

Yang Berbahagia Dato K Rajagobal was flying high since 2009, and his success in Laos gave some new momentum on local football to rise again. And followed by the unthinkable 2010 AFF victory in Jakarta further endorsed his philosophy who started the revolution with the national under 16 team. Since then, he seems to work on his own way, and the reluctance to change the style of play is exactly what i am going to write tonight. This is because i care for my national team.

And he was brought down to earth yesterday by the old enemy Singapore on our own backyard...the reality starts to bite.

In 2010, there was no expectation, nobody care to take Malaysia seriously. We went to Jakarta without a numbers of supposedly 'core players'. Slaughtered in the first game, however went on unnotice by many and suddenly lifted the cup in a quite remarkable dramatic fashion.

Two years on, series of friendly matches saw some signs of stagnancy, where the formation of 4-4-2 remain as the catalyst of our game plan. The pattern of positioning, distribution of the ball also unchange. The selection of players for each position has been increasingly expected.

S Kunanlan for instance, has been playing as a left winger regularly for 2 or 3 years. During the game, there was no position exchange between him and fellow wide man from the opposite flanks. He will stay there on the left flank for the entire game. Very predictable.

The return of Aidil Zafuan means one of the two cup winning centre backs have to be sacrificed. For me, this was the starting point, the solidity of the back four has been broken. A returning player should compete for his place instead of given an automatic spot. An automatic spot in the national team for a player who played in second division added more insult to the rest. The dressing room harmony could be an unknown issue for the public. But if it is, the damage done could be unreconcilable.

Skipper Safiq Rahim is another untouchable asset. Unchallenge, his call up to the squad means that they will be no other attacking playmaker in the squad. Dato build his team around Safiq. His limited style of cross field passes is now very common for south east asian teams. Lack of pace, lack of physical presence, and make things worse, his form has been declining in recent weeks. No healthy rivalry in the squad has put him in a very relax and complacent situation.

Besides talking about personel, the formation used by Dato was also very predictable. Flat 4-4-2 with the creativity much coming from Nurshahrul, the rest was easily read by Baihaki and the gangs.

No real penetration on the lions defence as they quickly defending in numbers once the ball reach Wan Zack or Kuna. Either flanks were well shut, as the two hardworking midfielders in Harris Harun and Mustafic always helping the fullbacks to clamp the threat from wide arears.

When supplies from the flanks were limited, the chances to get the ball into the area has been decreasing. That desperate situation forced Safee Sali to come deep just to collect passes.

For me, outdated tactics, identical personel and Maybe dressing room unrest could be the factor for this defeat. I just hope the national team set up could consider radical changes for the next game. We need the 3 points very badly.

6 days to 2012 AFF Cup kick off, and welcome to MALAYSIA

At this point of time, football community in Malaysia is focusing on 'our own version of world cup' which will be held here in the capital of Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam. The Suzuki AFF cup is coming to town and fans at all level can't wait for the moment of that mouthwatering kick off against old enemy Singapore.

Kids on the street wearing the national jersey either home or away kit, symbolised the level of acceptance by the next generations of supporters and could be next generations of footballer as well.

On promotional activities, i wish more publicity or awareness programs to be engaged with football fans in a more interactive mode. Contest, give aways, main subjects in local radio stations, TV talk show, community event such as futsal or 7 a side and many more to build the hype and attract public attention to the tournament. The organizer need to do more to match Harimau Malaya's reputation as defending champions and host nations.

Malaysia will play on Sunday 25 November, against Laos on Wednesday and Indonesia on Saturday 1 December. My advice to the fans, please maximize the public transportation especially the LRT and buses. Please buy the match tickets via online service, leave your home early during matchdays to avoid traffic conggestions.

For Singapore fans, you are welcome with our football spirits, you may feel familiar with the ground of Bukit Jalil, but in the same time hope you will enjoy the football carnival on our soil, we are not hooligans and please enjoy your stay in our capital city.

For Laos fans, maybe we don't have much history between us in term of bloody rivalry, but we will respect our guest in the best possible manner. Maybe majority of them will be consisting of foreign workers who worked here in various industry. Enjoy the football and your stay in the capital.

For Indonesian fans, either worked here in malaysia or travelling from Jakarta, my advice for you guys: YOU ARE ABOUT TO ENTER A MORE CIVILISED LAND WITH GREATER CULTURED PEOPLE. So we will not haunt your national team like a group of hungry lions chasing a little prey, just what you have done to ours in 2010 and 2011. Don't worry, your team will not be disturbed at the hotels, training ground or during traveling from hotel to the stadium. Your team will be travelling in a first class executive bus, unlike our team had to use Baracuda in 2010 and 2011. We will display our first class mentality to you, and you may have to agree later on that Bangsa Malaysia is well cultured people.

Whoever you are, this coming weekend will make your life a bit different. The trend will be Suzuki AFF cup 2012 and the whole world will wonder what is this cup all about? Come over to malaysia, book your hotel room now and enjoy your stay. Enjoy the football, welcome to Malaysia!

DISARRAYED Harimau Malaya set to enter AFF cup under poor form

Mysteriously under performed, disjointed, lack of creativity, same old game plan from the coach since 2010, never looked comfortable with ball possesion, not enough pressing, lack off the ball movement and of course some individual mistake.

The only consistent performer were coming from the stands, the chants and encouraging songs by Ultras Malaya.

I do care for my national team performance. I always wanted to see our football rise to another level. It is important to be vocal, because we need the issue to be addressed in the right manner.

After series of friendlies, including tonight's drew with Hong Kong, my personal observation is that we were technically way behind Thailand and Vietnam. Even after we took the lead through Safee's header, i was never convinced with our approach to the game. Hong Kong took the game to us even with 10 men. And most of the time, Malaysia looked more like an away team.

I really hope that the boys would respond in the most positive attitude for the next and could be the last friendly. I don't feel good this time around, the preparations is not up to the expectations and the team is totaly off form. Can we retain the cup if keep on playing like tonight?

DANI GUIZA's arrival will spice up the M League

Majority of footie fans in Malaysia were very sceptical in response to the news that Johor interested in bringing Daniel Gonzalez Guiza to Larkin Stadium in Johor, Malaysia. Johor fans, local football pundits, mainstream media and also neutral fans opted for wait and see approach while they were also some sections of fans called it as rubbish, wasting time & money, and some other negatives jibes.

Football at the south have so little to talk about for the last 20 years or so. Last winning the double in 1991 and FA cup triumph in 1997 (Steve Darby team), Johor, the most populated state after Klang Valley is in need of massive football re engineering. With the new ownership came in, lead by His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Idris Sultan Ibrahim (Johor Crown Prince), a glimpse of long desired hope is finaly restored.

Tunku Ismail, or well known as TMJ, roll out a new comprehensive and structured football plan for the state. Enhancing the local state league, plan to develop a new football academy in Nusajaya, plan to re develop the legendary Larkin Stadium, recruiting top coaches such as Fandi Ahmad (Former FC Gronigen, Holland) and also plan to build a very competitive team to challenge for honours domesticaly & continentaly.

With the arrival of Dani Guiza in Johor Bahru (Capital city of Johor) yesterday, marked as a big statement of intend by the southern Tigers to the rest of the country and Asia as well. TMJ realy mean business this time. The news spread so quickly across the nations via mainstream media, social networks and people on the streets talking about it with mixed reactions.

Fans across the causeway (singapore), and Indonesia also talked about the suprise move. At 32, Guiza is seen as a footballing bridge between Malaysian super league and La Liga in Spain. The multiple effect caused by this move is that: more football agents from La Liga will start to take a look at Malaysia Super League. Secondly, More quality and high profile players from La Liga wil come over to Johor and MSL in future, Third, potential marketing & commercial opportunities for both leagues such as TV rights and other related football products, fourth, will create awareness in Spain on Malaysian football and lastly, will attract local fans to the stadium to watch the local league.

Personaly, i am excited with the signing and i hope more high profile players will join in and trade their football in the hottest league in south east asia - MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE.

Ong Kim swee is the best coach in 2012

I can't properly put in writing, on how to describe the wonderful work done by coach Ong Kim Swee for the past 12 months (Including Jakarta SEA games). The major differences between this new generations of our footballer, with the previous project under Alan Harris is that our young footballer now understand on how important it is to keep possesion of the ball. Keep the ball as long as you can.

The main reason for our previous national teams failure was that they seems to get tired very early. When you spend so much running chasing the ball, you will lose your energy very quickly. And for sure your team can't compete for the entire 90 minutes competitively.

But now, there is a glimpse of hope for our team to play like a modern football team. Ong Kim Swee recognised this, and he promoted a more passing & possesion football. SEA games gold medal, Newspaper cup and third place in S league proved his coaching qualities. Not to mentioned other competition such as AFC U21 qualifiers where our team finished third behind contraversial host Myanmar. In that tournament, he unleashed the true quality of another young talented striker, Rozaimi Abd Rahman.

His favorite formation was 4-2-3-1, but sometimes changed to 4-4-2 according to the style of the opponents. His all round qualities in man to man management, tactical knowledge, great awareness on each players progress, great vision in scouting young talents and get the best out of the players, has convinced me that Ong Kim Swee is the best coach in 2012.

Coach, i wish your career will continue to grow, internationaly and all the best.

Part 2 - My visit to the Italian's important football institutions

The city of Torino (Turin)

The search continues...
After my visit to Milan, i decided that i need to have a closer look at another giant in Italian football. A true giants even though many football fans in Malaysia generaly not interested in Serie A or Italia Calcio as a whole. I need to see the club in details so that we can learn something, and move forward profesionaly like them. The strong anxious feeling inside persuaded me to look for it, and it drive me to the city of Torino to complete my adventure...

The 2 hour journey from Milan to Torino filled with excitement, the view of few Italian town along the way. I was also impressed with the architectural aspect with some of the older house, left me dream to build a house with such classy structure. Back to football, my next destination was about a club rich with history, tradition, long list of honours and a trophy laden cabinets. Yes, i am talking about Juventus FC.

The stadium itself located in a very strategic location. Easy to reach by car and bus, as the new Juventus Stadium located just near by the main Highway. As i was about getting into the stadium area, the sight of the new stadio Juventus impressed me. The combination of sporting, simplicity, convinience and Italian flavour were the main character of the arena. Its symbolised how important it is, Juventus FC for the fans, people of Turin and Italian football in general.

The arena was build around the community, as they want this new stadium to be a '24 hours and 7 days a week' alive and open. The stadium was build together with other facilities such as shopping complex, a hyper market, Museum and Juventus FC store. So, This area will be always alive by visitors either for shopping, or football related matters.

The main entrance to the stadium. The magnificent character of the club, strong message to the rest of the world. A club that was found by a group of young students, a commoner, normal people with great ambitions. Now, stand in front of me a prove of a succesfull football club, with a legacy of winning culture mixed with the already well known unique Italian sporting mentality. This is the only stadium in Italy own by the football club itself. Another point to learn by us in Malaysia.

30 times scudetto winners. A testimony that will remind everybody who want to know about this club. Without a doubt, this club is the biggest in Italy, and will get bigger. Massive numbers of visitors come down to this ground every year. Good business for the club.

Standing in front of the players tunnel. Players will normaly come out from here during match days. Upstairs, there were plenty of glass rooms, facing the pitch build for the corporate customers. The corporate customers leased the rooms for a season, and they will enjoy watching the game from the room plus some other hospitality services such as foods, drinks and comfort seat. This will generate more income for the club.

The new Stadio Juventus replacing Stadio Delle Alpi with smaller capacity of 41000 seat. The club intended to have a quality supports instead of quantity. The stand build so close to the pitch, around 10 meters and this excites the fans because they can see the actions closer. The club also installed so many cameras around the stadium to curb hooliganism, as the Italian football authority put security as their top agenda to bring football closer to the comunity. The seat is a numbered seat compelete with the fans name, and camera installed in every corner.

The museum. Must visit the Juventus museum. Marcello Lippi, one of the best quotes by one of the best manager in the club history.

Success doesn't build in one day, or one month, or one year. This trophy cabinet was build as a testimony for this club success for decades. Work hard and always believe.

My important point on this visit:

1. Location of the stadium easy for fans to reach.
2. Stadium build around the community. Convinience store to maintain the area alive.
3. Stadium ownership by the club, not city council.
4. Corporate box for corporate customer. To build long and sustainable relationship, to attract investor and sponsor. Massive income through leasing the corporate box
5. Great financial income through Museum and club store.

I hope State FA's and clubs in Malaysia would learn from this, as i wish there will be a team as big as Juventus will rise from Malaysia.

Struggled State Fa's may look for privatisation

Kuala Lumpur FA, Penang FA, Melaka FA and Perlis FA can be considered as traditional household name in local football for decades. But with current situation, relegated and struggled to survive financialy, they may have to look for better option.

I suggest these troubled FA's to outsource the first team affair to outside investor or partner. The FA will only focusing on Youth development, State's league and referee development.

How to do it? outsource means, the state FA can create a company with 51% share and another 49% share to be offered for outside investor or business partner. The intention of creating the private limited company is, to get involve in commercial business and to generate profit. The profit generate through the business activities will be distributed to the football team, which is legaly own by the private limited company.

My suggestion above is only on basic level. There will be more details for privatisation of a football club. But the whole idea is to give profesional football club a chance to shine, reduce the financial burden for the state FA's and improve football management at club level. KL City FC perhaps? or Melaka United FC?

My visit to the Italian's important football institutions - Part 1

The city of Milan

My arrival in the city of Milan was greeted by a fresh football air. Reasonably cold and windy, the Malpensa airport show a glimpse of what i described as a true footballing city. A replica or statue of former Inter star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stand tall in the arrival hall. We can't see that similar level of appreciation from our society in KLIA towards any Malaysian legends.

On my way from Malpensa to the city, i was a bit tired. But knowing that i was about to enter the 'capital of fashion' has kept me awake for the entire journey. Soon after unloading my goods in the room, i left for the city centre, or more famously known as Duomo.

I can't leave Milan without visiting their supreme megastore. Top class. The two storey megastore fits the taste and requirement of many Milan fans. It is located about 200 meters from Duomo square. Jerseys, Mafla and everything to do with AC Milan can be obtained here. I had suggested once to the all Malaysian football clubs that we need to have this kind of facilities. The megastore could bring in more income to the clubs. Malaysian State's FAs and the clubs need to be sustainable in the long run, and they need to diversify their income to achieve that. FA's or clubs megastore could be an important option.

Milan Derby 7th October 2012. It was AC Milan as the home team (eventhough they shared the stadium). I was about to enter the stadium via gate 12. Although the city was packed with the passionate fans, but security wise, it was always under control. Before i could enter through the gate behind me, i had to go through a manual officer checking. The stadium officer checked my ticket before i procede to the next security level. The second level impressed me the most. The bar code validation system. The system installed to ensure that i was using the valid match ticket. Another point to be highlighted in Malaysia football. Valid and genuine match ticket to ensure the club's gate receipt in total control.

Finaly got my seat at the third tier. yup the highest tier. The match was about to start. The Curva Sud ultras displayed their dominance by continous chants and songs. Malaysia Fans, are you watching this? i am sure our Ultras Malaya could produce a banner as big as this one!

The game went on, Inter went ahead in just 4th minute after Walter Samuel headed in a free kick on the far post. Both sides are not my favourite team, so i won't elaborate more on the technical side of the game. I just being there for my personal visit, observation or may i say, my little research on Italia calcio.

Always amazed, fascinated, thrilled by the CURVA SUD ultras. There is no football without the fans.

Another great chants by the Curva Sud ultras. Electric

The game ended with 'the visiting team' won by 0-1. Not so much goal mouth action, but a very high energy Milan derby game. Time to go back to my room

This is actually Duomo square. Located at the heart of the city. This is where normaly the fans celebrate their triumphant victory domesticaly or continentaly.

My important points from this Milan visit.

1. The local authority to promote local football team, and their stars
2  The important of having good public transport for the fans to the stadium. Trains, buses, tramps
3. The important of clubs to be enggaged with the fans
4. The important of establishing club's megastore to generate income
5. The important of technology to supervise and monitor stadium security. Plus to validate genuine match  ticket.
6. The important of having seated stadium. Where each seat will be numbered according to section, tier and priority. This is to make fans feel more convinience.

This is all for my part 1, will see you later in part 2. Insha Allah.

Expected last four in the Malaysia cup

Sorry, nothing suprised me with the result tonight. On form ATM easily brushed aside defending champions Negeri Sembilan, Selangor walked over Clubside Johor FC, Pahang can't play in Jalan Besar, so The Lions as expected won comfortably and Kelantan Cruised past Felda United in what i described as 'on pedestrian mode'.

So Selangor will play Kelantan, while ATM to meet the Lions. Selangor - Kelantan clash will be the clash of the season, as both side hunting for the biggest prize in Malaysian football. Kelantan to complete the season with the treble, while Selangor looking for that 33 times winner.

No local players impressed me at this quaterfinal stage. And that's not a good symptom for our football.

Most match winningh performance came from the foreign stars, as proved by Muhd Ghaddar. His composure when received the ball, his technic during one to one situation, his athletic ability to go past defenders with ease, and his reliable foot to kill the game. Not to forget, ability of using either foot in shooting is important for any striker.

I dont want to be a fortune teller, so i dont want to predict who will play in the final. I just hope the semifinalist will put a better performance in their future games.

Great task ahead for Malaysia to defend the AFF cup

Even though we are so excited with the coming AFF cup, which will be played in my adopted city of Shah Alam, but deep down my biggest concern is the fact that Harimau Malaya is not at the best possible condition.

Why? Our main striker Safee sali is struggling with match fitness, not playing in any competitive match since july due to ISL early finished. Being limited to trained with harimau muda, Safee lost of match sharpness and his goal predatory instinct is beginning to take effect.

Fellow strike partner Norshahrul Idlan Talaha not having the best football of his career this year, at least on his standard. I can't even remember for any game this season, where mat yo put his match winning performance. The rotation policy by Bojan Hodak could be the factor for this, as Kelantan involved with the AFC cup. I always wish he could performing well at the continental level instead of domestic football. But so far the flash of his trickery is missing big time.

How are we going to get a goal if these two goal machine are not at their best form?
Can we rely on our new generations of striker to do the job? The likes of Shakir Ali, Rozaimi Abd Rahman, Muhd Afiq Azmi and Hazwan Bakri?

I am not the fans of Datuk K Rajagobal's tactic. Flat 4-4-2 since 2009, his style of play is very predictable and straight forward. When Safiq Rahim get the ball, we knew what will happen next. He will pump it long for the flanks to give the chase, and expecting the opponent's defender to slip up. The defeat by Vietnam in September was a blessing in disguise. I hope he can work out his tactical discipline, and to prevent a similar dull performance to ever happen again.

The misfiring forward line and boring game plan are my greatest concern. We need to do more to ensure we can keep the cup. Remember, this is by far, our own 'world cup'. The scale of south east asia's public endorsement towards the tournament is truly phenomenal. Not just us in Malaysia, the region is taking this cup more seriously.

However, me as a football fans need to update my tactical knowledge. I need to read more on the latest modern football game plan. To feel it, to breath the pure football air, i am looking forward to the classic Milan Derby next week...for learning and exposure wise. Why Serie A? I'll let you know next time Insha Allah

Lesson learn from Terengganu crisis

The most under achieved team for this season, a side full with talent, young and great support from the terraces, but somehow they found themself finished the season with empty handed.

I really admire the squad they have, full with international exposed players. From Sharbinee, Marzuki, Muslim, Faizal, Zubir, Mazlizam, Joseph Kalang, Ashaari Shamsudin, Ismail Farouqi, Manaf Mamat, Hadi Yahya and so on.

The downfall started when coach Haji Irfan Bakti left the team for Selangor. Then Mat Zan Mat Aris was the successor, did reasonably well until the team eliminated from AFC cup by neighbour Kelantan. The fans consistently presure the Terengganu FA to sack him, and the FA finaly did that. Mat Zan was 'rested' from his duty.

Then came in the familiar figure of James Butler. He was known for his unsuccesful spell with champions Kelantan. But the point is not about the coaches appointment, but how i see the route cause for the whole issue.

When Muslim Ahmad and Ismail Faruqi were suspended by Butler for what he claimed as indiscplinary conduct, the whole nation strucked with suprise. Both side went to the media, exchange words and blamed each others. Then the matter get worsen when Sharbinee shockingly conceed a school boy error to gave Kedah an equaliser in a Malaysia  Cup match in Kuala Terengganu.

Butler could not accept the manner of how Sharbinee gave away the own goal, branded the goalkeeper as a disgrace. For me, the more i saw the replay, the more i suspect that it was a deliberate, own goal. For what reason? i believe only Allah and Sharbinee knows.

The whole saga also closely monitored by the state head of executive, A Menteri Besar. Dato Ahmad Said publicly dissapointed with the situation, warned the players and backed Butler. For me, a comment from a top Government figure on any footballing matters is totally un acceptable. And he is not even the Terengganu FA president.

I only see an element of unprofesional going on in Terengganu FA crisis. I suspect there is 'player power'culture in the Terengganu camp, state Government direct interference in the team's day to day affair and suspiciuos match fixing behaviour. And i am worry with these negative development.  These are the same old story we had 20 years ago, it seems that we are stuck in the same spot and not moving anywhere. Looked like there is no real profesionalism in our football. I hope i was wrong. The other states or clubs must learn from this crisis.

2 years on, the V league produced better footballers than ours

Playing against any Vietnamese side is a always a difficult task to tell the truth. As far as i remember since the 2001 SEA games in Kuala Lumpur, eventhough we managed to beat them in that 2-0 victory, i noticed that Vietnam progressed tremendously as the years gone by.

Plus with some encouraging campaign in the AFF cup, Vietnam's football deem to be looked full with potential, dynamic and moving forward in the right direction. This is what we can called as progressed.

As for tonight's game in Shah Alam, a bitter, severe dissapointment dominating my emosion. Right from the kick off, the visiting team were looked more composed, mentally prepared and always threatening on every movement they've created.

My Tactical analysist:

MALAYSIA:

Datuk K rajagobal (DKRG) used this game as for his final phase of experiment, like giving a full international debut for ATM's Cristie Jayaseelan and the return of his old time favorite forward Zaquan Adha. Mahali Jasuli was given a holding role when replacing the struggling Gary Steven Robbart.

Malaysia start off with the flat 4-4-2 formation. On individual basis, below par performance by Wan Zack Haikal, Zaquan, Norshahrul, Gary Steven, inexperience Cristie and out of sort Safiq Rahim make things worst for the home team.

There were so many misplaced passes, static bodies in our own half, very predictable when the attack reached the final third and we were forced to play long ball due to the great effect of high pressing games by the vietnamese.

Malaysia looked clueless, disjointed and often gave the ball away cheaply. Was it due to our players inability to perform? or was it due to other factor? I discovered some suprised facts on why we unable to perform tonight. It was due to the opponent's factor.

VIETNAM:

Started with 4-2-3-1 and often diverted to 4-5-1 when lost the possesion, the visiting side opted to play with short and effective passes. There were always a small triangle formed when they have the ball with each players in 7 meters distance between them. This make it easier for the passer to find support and other options when needed.

Vietnam started their defence from the forward line. Whenever Aidil or Faizal have the ball and opted to play the ball short for Safiq or Gary, we can see one of the forward will close down the passer, while the other 2 marked down the full backs. This high line pressing successfully forced the passer to pumped it long upfield. This was where we usualy lost the ball. Forced error due to high pressing by Vietnam.

Another factor of their success tonight, was due to the understanding of one touch and move football. Its about pass and be at the right place. Every Vietnam move involved with at least minimum of 3 players. And all of them were similarly identical in term of technical ability. When the fullbacks operating on the flanks, the defensive midfielder always behind him to give any support and options. In between of forward line and midfield, there were so many movement from the running midfielders and usualy they received the splitting pass that confused the Malaysian rearguard.

SUMMARY:

Vietnam truly deserved this convincing 0-2 victory, and i thought the best team won tonight. What i realy impressed with, was the fact that they were technically superior than our players. Vietnam successfully adopting total football and they play to their strength. Vietnam is on the right track, if not the same path as the Koreans when they build their football 30 years ago. This victory proved that their V league produced better technical players than our Super league.

EID, Malaysia cup and our thought for Safee Sali

Muslims in Malaysia and their worldwide brothers celebrated the 'victory day' on last sunday. Also known as the Eid in the west, the celebration was dedicated for their hard resistance towards the evil and lust, which is believed to be human's natural enemy.

The celebration was excessive sometimes, added to the fact that August is the month of independence. So the mood is more on food, school break, domestic travelling and enjoying the festival season.

Does the Eid affecting the football season? the answer is no. Series of friendlies were played during Ramadhan for most of the teams. They had to prepare for the biggest cup in the country, the Malaysia Cup.

Come wednesday, the first group stage match were played nationwide. I am proud to say that the public respond was fantastic. The east coast derby was electric, Sarawak shocked giants Selangor, both Johor side earned a point and premier league winner the Armed forces started briliantly with an impresive 2-0 victory over Kedah.

For this year's Malaysia cup, my personal expectation is that, i want to see players becoming more technical, individually. I expect more players to show what they are capable of with the ball, how they use it in tight angle, comfortable with good first touch, able to hold the ball in a difficult pressing situation and not giving away the ball easily.

This year's Malaysia cup is so important for any players, especialy Malaysian footballers. The AFF cup will be held later in November, and i am sure they are doing their best to impress datuk K Rajagobal. The national team need to deliver the positive result which is to retain the cup, as we are the host nation.

We need to pick the best possible players for the tourney, and surely the coach will select the fittest and on form players for the said assignment. For this, my concern would be on the AFF cup 2010 golden boot winner Safee Sali. The 2011/2012 Indonesia Super league has ended, and safee not playing competitive football for months now.

I thought that Safee could get more competitive matches if he can find a club in other country for on loan basis. Thai premier league, V league or even Harimau Muda in S league could be an option. If he can't get regular football for the next 3 months, i am sorry to say that he is not deserve to be in the starting eleven for our national team. He need to be in match fit condition. I urge Datuk to look into this, please pick a player with merit, not by reputation.

Veterans that are still good enough to play for Malaysia

As we all know Datuk K Rajagobal (DKRG) national team set up is build around younger generations of footballer. Players that used to play under him since the under 17 & 19 team, or players that emerged from local league with less experience, or players coming through the Harimau muda's rank and maybe talented young players from the lesser side in the lesser league.

However, as a local football supporter, i noticed that some experienced footballer out there still have a lot to offer, especially for our beloved Harimau Malaya. Being left out, or ignored by DKRG for few years since his success in Laos SEA games, i believe the veterans have the quality needed in the squad and bring more stability in the dressing room. Experienced players who can make the difference in any tight and close games, experienced players who can offer composure on the pitch when the football match intensity is getting higher and more stressfull and perhaps an older players who can be looked upon by the younger one for advices.

My personal wish is that DKRG will call up few veterans and to include them in the upcoming AFF cup squad this year. I have come out with top experienced footballers in the country and lets see the following list of my suggestion.

5. Norfarhan Muhamad, 28 years old (Kelantan) - The Terengganu born forward is core of the successfull Kelantan side this year after helping the red warriors winning the FA cup and Super League tittle. Very quick feet, able to beat defenders in one to one situation, can play in both flanks and a very good goal instinct as well. Long ignored by the national team, as far as i remember, his last appearance with the harimau was in the Asian games in Doha. (if not mistaken). His presence in the squad could give DKRG more options in attack.

4. Akmal Rizal, 31 years old (Perak) - One of the few Malaysian who has tasted european football in their career, Akmal Rizal can be best regarded as great profesionals with great inteligence in his game. Known for his goal poaching instinct, the Kedah born striker, when fully fit, is the player any coach could rely on to get a goal on regular basis. Physically better this season, he played regularly for the Perak side that finished fourth in the league. I could say that Akmal can fit into DKRG style of play if his service required by the national team boss.

3. Indra Putra Mahyuddin, 31 years old (Kelantan) - Adored by fans for any team that he played for, Indra is regarded as one of the most consistent and successfull player in his generation. Still looked fit, always burning with hungry for success, Indra still can pose great danger to any team with his penetrative run and long distance effort. Technically good as a free kick taker, as shown in this year's AFC cup clash against vietnam's Navibank, DKRG should consider him a return to the national team. Indra is good enough to fight for that right wing spot.

2. Shukor Adan, 33 years old (Negeri Sembilan) - Played as midfielder during early days of his career but nowadays can be shifted into a centreback, the fiery general can be considered as Malaysia's 'Roy Keane'. Great leadership quality, full of energy, great physical stature/attributes, very good in organizing the team and of course he is very vocal on the pitch. Recently picked by Ong Kim Swee to play for Malaysia selection against Indonesia U-22 in a friendly, Shukor again showed his class at international level with fantastic performance. His flexibility to play as a defensive midfielder or a centre back could give DKRG a food for thought. When your side is leading 1-0 and the game have 10 minutes to play for, you might want to strengthen your defence especialy the opponent raise their game searching for an equaliser. An old head could provide extra calm in the final phase of the game. I suggest Shukor Adan as a back up for Aidil-Subra partnership.

1. Badri Radzi, 30 years old (Kelantan) - He is the catalyst of the current Malaysian Champions. DKRG seems reluctant to call him up, or even to try him in a friendly. Captain in nature, well known for his 'defence splitting pass', Badri or PIYA is a very talented footballer. I am not so sure whether he has got his first senior cap for Malaysia or not, but having Badri in the squad could add quality, in term of healthy rivalry with another playmaker, Safiq Rahim. I thought that Badri and Safiq cannot play together in the same team, if we remain with 4-4-2. We need balance in the midle of the pitch, so DKRG could only start with one attacking midfielder. The least i could suggest is that, Badri can be an ideal replacement should Safiq out with injury or get suspended.

We need to sent our best squad for this coming AFF cup, which is we will be the host nation. Anything less than retaining the cup would be a failure. Eventhough we have a lot of good young players coming through the ranks, but we also need balance in the squad. These talented veterans could give the much needed solutions for the national team.

Can we do something to improve physically?

Malaysians in general have a very strong will, high level of enthusiasm to obtain success in life. When it comes to sports, we always producing talents that are good enough to compete at least at south east asia's level. But the pain truth is, we always struggle when facing a bigger opponents, bigger in term of physical stature/attributes.

In football, the number one and long favourite sports in this country, we have always witness the poor condition of the player's stature. This always highlighted especialy during international games, when Malaysia playing middle eastern sides or Australia. Lack of real heights, especially important position such as goalkeepers, central defenders or at least one of the midfielders.

In the eighties and early nineties, we used to have Goalkeepers with reasonably good height such as Khairul Azman Mohamad (Pahang & Malaysia), Azmi Mahmud (Kedah & Malaysia) & Rashid Hassan (Kuala Lumpur & Malaysia) and some others.

In defence, we can count on K Gunalan (Selangor & Malaysia), Chow Siew Yai (Kuala Lumpur), Ghani Malek (Kuala Lumpur & Malaysia), Azmil Azali (Johor & Malaysia) and others were known for their big physical presence at the back.

Looking at the current national team, or at least if we are going to give a raw accessment on the Super League's pool of players, it is very hard for anybody to single out to any player with a good physical + technical talent package. NO disrespect to the current crop of talent, but for me, the height and size of the football players are very important.

Khairul fahmi che mat, Aidil Zafuan, Safiq rahim, Khyril Muhymeen and a lot more without doubt they are a very good players. But i wish, they could grow taller to become at least a six footer players. Most of the current national team players graduated from Bukit Jalil sports school, and i wish SSBJ could do something with their diet/nutritions program.

Can SSBJ or SSTMI sit together with the ISN to formulate a special program for physical development? As far as i know, a boy in his 13 or 14 years old is in the right phase for physical growth. Can these institutions joint their effort to produce an improve Malaysian footballer with an improve physical stature?

I can suggest 2 ways for us to build a very tall and muscular footballer.

One, Improve diet & nutritions program. Feed the young players with the right set of food. Meals that rich with calcium, magnesium and balance of protein with carbohidrate. Control the consumption of rice (Whether plain rice, fried rice or nasi lemak). The school must emphasize on feeding the likes of yogurt, Cheese, Boiled chicken. The muscles need water and protein to grow.

Two, Improve the physical work out program. Maybe it won't help in term of grow taller, but a player could improve in term of muscular and look competitively more solid.

The only player with good balance of physical attributes and footballing technics is Izzaq Faris Ramlan (Harimau muda). His height and movement with the ball is top class and wish more Malaysian players with such stature could rise and shine for the national team.

Enough with the exhibition mode, its time for serious and meaningful friendlies

I never impress with the idea of our national team to play in an exhibition match, against any visiting european football clubs. The fact that our national team never learn or never earn any slice of benefits from it. Personal glory  or self satisfactory maybe, enjoyed by most of the national team players. But in term of football progress, we should take a long look and re consider future similar fixture.

A national team must at any way, to be played in an A GRADE international fixture. Thats mean Malaysia to play any national team in this planet, and NOT to play against any club side whether localy or internationaly. I urge FAM to be more serious on this, planning and arranging future international friendlies, or friendly tournament. Why am i not happy with these fixture? Well, i have come up with some reasons why we need to arrange friendlies fixture accordingly

First, exhibition games against the BPL clubs won't help the Harimau Malaya to climb up the ladder in FIFA ranking. The result was totaly meaningless, but again and again, the team always exposed by the visiting teams with our boys normally well beaten and the coach will end up saying "They are in different level, they are world class players"....and so on. We have to accept the painful reality, currently our football are not up to the expectation as yet. The team gave their best, played with pride eventhough looked tired considering that they have been serving the fasting month of Ramadhan with full of sincerity. To achieve higher rank in FIFA's list, the only way is by playing against another national team, not a club side.

Second, the visiting BPL teams are not playing anywhere near 70% of their true potential capability. They are here only for marketing purpose, making money by penetrating south east asia's market. They are not here to help our football. They are not interested with our talent. So, why are we so serious playing against them? In actual fact, they dont even bother on whatever outcome that may occur after the game. It is better for us, the host to field a selection or best eleven from our Super league. The best foreign imports plus some 3 or 4 top local players. They are promoting their brand, so we should unleash our local brand as well, which is the Super league itself.

Third, Harimau Malaya should be given a true international game. This is where FAM looked lacking so much. Can we play a lesser side from europe such Macedonia, Cyprus, Belarus, Lithuania and etc? Why is it so hard for FAM to arrange a quality fixture? Or lesser south American side such as Venezuela, trinidad & Tobago and etc? Is it so impossible for FAM to find an opponent or is it just because effort was not sufficient enough to attract suitable opponent for friendlies? Please let the Super League All Star to play against the visiting european clubs. Its time for FAM to move on, no more exhibition game for our beloved national team, please give them a real football.

Exciting time for Johor football

Even though the state team failed to qualify for next year's Super League, i am confident they will come back stronger next year. This is due to the changes take place in PBNJ, powered by the new owner's ambitious plan and financial strength. Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim's vision has bring new hope for Johor football.

Players salary has been adjusted to motivate the team to perform better, as a result we can see the late push by Johor fa in the final 4,5 games in the premier league. Fandi Ahmad was brought in to help the team's technical dan tactical improvisation. News highlighting the appointment more as a technical adviser. But for next season, i believe Fandi's role could be a bigger one. I predict Fandi Ahmad will be appointed as head coach for the first team next year and will be assigned to lead Johor Fa for Super league automatic promotion spot. I believe the Singapore legend has what it takes to deliver the desired result. He won tittles in Singapore league, as well as coaching experience in Indonesian Super League.

News of Argentine great Gabriel Batistuta joining the technical team was also an exciting prospect. However, as to date, he is largely seen as a mediator for PBNJ in their effort to land quality players from Argentina. Juan Roman Requelme, Pablo Aimar, Andres D Allesandro, David trezeguet and even Michael Owen were mentioned to be linked with next years PBNJ signings. HOwever, so far no conclusive agreement was made between PBNJ and the said foreign stars.

Tunku Ismail himself declared that he want to see an improved Larkin Stadium in term of up todate facilities, including training complex for the team. More football fields to be build across the state, to accomodate the publics interest to the game.

The nature of football fans in Johor is that, they want to support a winning side. A football team that competitive enough to deliver 3 points every time they play in the league, either at home or away. Fans nowadays demanding a team that have the consistency, high level discipline, great resilliance, desire to win at all cost, battling for every ball and the most important factor is beautiful flowing passing attacking football. The fans need that before they could spent their money for a ticket, or before they spend on team's merchandise such as shirt and mafla.

In short term, to build a very attractive attacking side would be by spending big on local talents across the nation. Players with quality, flair, great positive attitude, experienced need to be brought in to strenghten the squad. Players like Farizal Marlias (GK-Negeri sembilan), Fadhli Shas (Harimau Muda), Fandi Othman (Harimau Muda), Irfan Fazail (Harimau Muda) and Baddroll Bakhtiar (Relegated Kedah) could be an excellent addition to the squad. By winning in style, is the only way to seduce fans back into the stadium.

In longer term, currently Johor have their own domestic league in Liga Johor and Piala Sultan Johor. I hope PBNJ could raise the standard of the league by imposing 'A' licensed coach to be allowed to handle any participating team. This will improve the domestic's club technical and tactical ability. Also i suggest at least 3 players on each starting eleven must be below 20 years old. This will help the talents to grow in Johor.

Not to forget TMJ's plan to build a football academy in Nusajaya, which is vital for the growth of any football team. If possible, the coaching set up in that academy must be headed by a reputable foreign coach. People like louis Van Gaal, Gerrard Houllier, Pep Guardiola and more are the one we need to have in order to produce the best.

With planning are in place, sponsors are lining up, ambitious management in work, i could tell you the excitement is building up in Johor. Football is the missing puzzle in johor's society, and they will finaly have a team to be proud of. Me too, felt the wave of the return of the southern tiger to the top of Malaysian football in the near future. Johor fans certainly have something to cheer about.

Malaysia's QPR week

The visiting English club is not a household name in Malaysia. This club can be considered as a lesser team for those following the English Premier League. But the club chairman is a Malaysian, and that could be a big factor why they are coming to the far east.

Frankly, i dont take their Malaysian tour seriously. There is not much for me to look for. The mainstream media tried to build the pre match excitement as much as they can, by giving a special publicity around Park Ji Sung.

However, i do believe the Malaysian tour against Sabah and Kelantan will benefits the local Super League. The friendlies wont help us in term of football ability, but it may give our super league an extra edge from the marketing view. The QPR fans in England are following the team via clubs news, internet as well as the social network and this will give a very healthy publicity to our local football brand.

Personally, for longe term, if the clubs from europe continously make their visit here every year, our football brand, local youth talents will have a bigger opportunity to get noticed. I suggest for any Malaysian state or club side to field their best local and young players to face the visiting team. Produce and sell, thats the main objective while the match result should be a secondary issue. I wish all the best for QPR for the upcoming new season in England, and you are welcome to Malaysia any time.

A call for a more competitive, industry and huge investment football league format

The season is now reaching to the third quarter term, where play off matches are expected to be played. But frankly when i saw more traditional powerhouse like Kedah struggling to stay up in the super league, then i concluded that football management in Malaysia need a help. A profesional help.

There is also Perlis relegated to the FAM league (third tier competition) and to remind all of us, Perlis were Malaysia cup champions back in 2004 & 2006 if not mistaken. I suspect lack of funds was the main reason behind these downfalls. When you dont have enough funds to attract top talent in term of salary war, then you was forced to search for lesser or shall i say 'B grade' players. A team full of B or C grade players will eventually pull you down to the bottom of the league. Not to mention lack of dressing room harmony due to lack of incentives such as winning bonuses payment being deffered.

I want to suggest to the M League authority, the time has come to change our way of work. The football league in this country is no longer an ordinary entertainment, or it is no longer a charity organization used by certain party for their own personal agendas. Our football league is now in need for bigger investment in term of sponsorships, or some  refer as ventures.

The league itself must be a separate entity, or at least a partly owned company of FAM. The Malaysian Super League must be a separate company or at least FAM could only have 40% share in that company. I suggest FAM, as the highest football governing body in this country to find a profesional and neutral party to organize, managing and run the league. In a simpler word, FAM to outsource the M league to an outside company. FAM will eventually be the principle owner with certain percentage of shares, while the third party company will be the league's operator with some extended authority.

In our case, MALAYSIA SUPER LEAGUE SDN BHD must have that extended authority in handling the domestic league. extended authority or similar to financial autonomy should be given to the MSL SB. With proper handover, MSL SB will govern the league with a more profesional approach. MSL SB should be allowed to negotiate with the main sponsors on any sponsorship deals, should be allowed to negotiate with TV revenues, should be allowed for full scale league's financial budget and other corporate planning.

When the structure is in place, then MSL SB need to design a very competitive league format such as to have 16 team competing in the Super league, 16 teams in Premier league, 10 teams in FAM league, and 8 to 10 teams in regional leagues (central, north, east, south and east malaysia region).

Malaysian league as an industry? We can achieve it by focusing on high income that could be generated by the league, players and corporate sponsors. I suggest for the league to grant high financial sponsors package to then teams. I estimate around RM 15 million a year for each team competing in super league. High financial grant will, in return help the team to offer great salary package to their players. The funds available will enable the clubs to keep aside some money for saving, reinvestment or generate more money through some side business ventures such as merchandizing store.

MSL SB as the license holder of the leagues may offer local or international investor to invest in the league. MSL SB also may appeal to the government to grant a special tax exemption for any company that interested to invest. Yes, lure the investor to invest. Like i said before, football must be treated as a national agenda. The football authority must go beyond the ordinary thinking, set aside any political or self interest. By making the football league as an industry is the only way moving forward. No more struggling states with rely on states government funds, no more players with deffered salary bills. Our football must go big in full scale.

Similarity of corporate decision in Shinji Kagawa signing, and Nazmi Faiz adventure

Globalization in football has becoming a common issue nowadays, players coming from every corner of this world emerged with outstanding talent. I am amazed with the rise of asian players in europe.

And i am happy for the Japanese people for their success in producing talents such as Shinji Kagawa. His sensational season debut with Borrusia Dortmund impressed me, leaving me wondering how good the J League is, and the same time hoping our duo in Wan zack & Wan Zaharulnizam to do well in their trial with Fc Ryukyu.

For any big clubs in europe, or also the lesser one, the purchasing of playing staff is now regarded as a vital move and could be seen as the club's prime direction. Some of the club need collective decision when it comes to transfer policy. They will look into any extra factor that can give them additional benefit such as TV right, merchandizing prospect and creating reputation in a new market.

I thought the same factor lead Manchester United's decision in signing the Japanese playmaker. They benefited both on and off the pitch by bringing in the latest talent from Japan. I am sure the boy will strengthen united's midfield with his creativity, and in the same time shirt sale in Tokyo will soar. A two in one package.

The same case would happen in the signing of Nazmi Faiz with Sc Beira Marr. The Portugese outfit may not the biggest name in Portugal football and let alone in europe, but their courage effort in bringing talents from south east asia indicates their global vision. They are looking for football talent, and also intended to leave a footprint in a new market segment in case of future global venture.

Top 6 talents that need to move away to revive their footballing career

This country have been producing football talents for almost a century now. Some of them were natural born football players, some of them managed to trade their football abroad, some of them were so successful with the national team, some of them forced to retired early due to unfortunate long term injury, some of them idolised by the locals and not to forget some of them being caught with serious offence such as match fixing scandals.

Today, as we are progressing into a more serious football industry, the domestic leagues also getting more competitive. The national team success at the south east asia level attracted unexpected interest from the Malaysian public. With the help of new generation of football supporters, Malaysian Super League slowly has been accepted by local footie fans with some reasonable heights of hope.

Even though the Super league has now considered as ended with Kelantan retained the title, i am interested to highlight some of the league's top talent who i think in need of serious consideration to leave their current clubs in order to achieve greater things in football. I will list down 6 talented players who i think can make a good move to any side locally or internationaly.

6. AZAMUDIN AKIL (Pahang) - Lately being favourite son for Datuk K Rajagobal, the energetic forward played an instrumental role for his team this season. Could play as a target man as well as on the either flanks, 'Alex' provide plenty of attacking options for any coach. Recently being linked to a move to Selangor next season, Azamudin is indeed now considered as one of the hottest prospect in the market.

5. HADI YAHYA (Terengganu) - The Kelang born striker won the golden boot award last season untill his place took away by Liberian Forkey Doe. Very comfortable in the six yard box, his predatory instinct is top class. Often positioned himself at the right place and at the right time, any team would love to have this kind of goal poacher. If Terengganu retain the service of Forkey doe, i suggest Hadi to move to another club that can give him regular football. To play alongside Akmal Rizal in Perak would help him perhaps?

4. KHYRIL MUHAIMEEN (Kedah) - Spotted, trained, developed by formerly Malaysia under 17 squad and coached by Datuk K rajagobal himself during youth team set up, Khyril is another versatile attacker who could operating with maximum effect either as top marksmen or on the flanks. Known for his trickery and dribbling skills, i suggest a move away could help him to fight for a place in the harimau squad. I imagine Khyril Muhaimeen to joint fellow kedahan Shakir Ali for next season Negeri Sembilan attack?

3. AMIRULHADI ZAINAL (Selangor) - Once considered as automatic starter on the right wing of harimau Malaya, but now found himself on the selangor bench more often. Left out by coach Irfan Bakti for certain reason, Amirulhadi's strength based on his ability to run with the ball and give meaningful penetration from the right side. Powered by relentless stamina, Amirulhadi is dangerous when link up well with his fellow forward and work with small movement on the edge of the penalty box. His understanding with other teammates help him to create spaces and allowing him to make penetrative run inside the box. If cant work out with coach Irfan, i hope he can work things out elsewhere. Perak seem to be an ideal destination.

2. BADDROL BAKHTIAR (kedah) - The forgotten man since the Jakarta SEA games victorious night, Badd is best remembered for his leadership qualities, calmness on the pitch, great passer of the ball, great free kick taker, corner kick specialist, deadly long range shot and good goal ratio for an attacking midfielder. When his team out of form, Badd is the one who lead the team with positive attitude. With so much uncertainties in kedah set up. i suggest Badd to move to a team that can accomodate his style of play. His best position is the free role behind the lone striker, like what Amri Yahyah doing at the moment with selangor. Could be Shah alam stadium will be his new home for next season?

1. ROZAIMI ABD RAHMAN (Sabah) - Not a big figure untill exploded with 10 goals in the recent AFC under 22 qualifying in Myanmar. Rozaimi shows plenty of great goal poaching technics that drew unexpected interest from so many clubs. Thai giants BEC Terro expressed interest in his service but lately no legitimate contact being made. Also monitored by Ong Kim Swee, this young striker is the next big thing for Malaysia Football. The news today confirmed he will be loaned out to Selangor for malaysia cup campaign. Hopefully he can seal the permanent deal there. Rozaimi and Baddrol upfront for Selangor next season?

The winning momentum continues...a review on Malaysian Super League Champions, KELANTAN

I thought they deserved to win the league title 2 seasons in a row. I have mentioned somewhere last year that the biggest factor of their success were about the leadership of Tan Sri Annuar Musa. He have so much passion running in his blood about football especially his hometown football team.

KAFA success for the past 3 or 4 seasons earned domestic publicity and Tan Sri managed to lure corporate sponsorship for marketing and joint venture off the pitch. Football team is indeed an expensive equity these days, you need massive budget just to keep sustainable in the league.

Also powered by loyal 'Red Warriors' at average 20k attendance every time they played at home ground, the gate collection were the biggest envy in the country. Good merchandizing outlet accross the state also helped the increase in financial income.

I am talking about financial strength possesed by KAFA based on various income as stated above, and i believe Tan Sri have done a great job in term of identifying the needs of strong financial back up for any football team. Cash stability is vital in today's football. Due to this strong financial conditions, KAFA managed to bring the best out of each players during matchdays. Pro players need extra motivations, they also need extra guarantee for their job. Good pays, extra insentives, benefits will motivate players to perform even better.  You cannot ask a player to commit if their salary payment being deferred to next month, or their contract being terminated due to long term injury. Football players need protection, and they also need a little bit guarantee.

Tan Sri regularly rewarded his players with bonuses, incentives prior to the match. This kind of reward were simply encouraging and helped the players, mentally at least.

Another winning factor was on how KAFA planned for foreign players selection since last year. They have identified Mohd Ghaddar since August last year, if i am not mistaken. Even though KAFA's mariage with Peter Butler only lasted for 2 months due to certain reason, they managed to get a similar quality coach in Bojan hodak. Instant respond reflects KAFA ability to steady the ship in any demanding situation. And this is a sign of profesional football club management. Congrates KAFA.

On the pitch, I saw a very big Kelantan squad helped them to compete on all fronts. Hodak rotated the squad in a very intelligent manner, using different set of players for a different opposition. Team selection also depending on opposition's formation. Thats why we can see sometime NorShahrul Idlan Talaha playing on wide areas. For player of the season in the league, i choose skipper Badri Radzi as their best player in the league. Notably the most hungry for success player on the pitch, Piya always inspired the team to move forward.

I urged all team in the super league to take a look at KAFA and how they manage the team. State FA should start to engange closer with the fans, generate money and deliver the result on the pitch. Congrates Kelantan, i wish you all the best in upcoming AFC cup and Malaysia cup campaign.

Well beaten, or deceived?

With expectation running high prior to the AFC U22 qualifier between host Myanmar and Malaysia, we always believe this talented assembled u22 side will soldier on and win the tie.

The team had to deal with various injury casualties and coach Ong Kim swee was forced to make changes, including playing Fandi Othman as a centre back.

First half was a game to forget. Irfan Fazail didn't play well. Gary Steven looked a bit slow and less aggresive. Nazmi Faiz need to discover himself as he displayed series of poor touches and lack of meaningful running into advance position. OKS need to sort out with Nazmi what was wrong with him lately.

I am not interested to elaborate more on the how we conceded the goals, but at the same time rumors started building up that host Myanmar fielding overaged players in their squad. I just cant believe the rumors with the fact that for today modern football most participating countries are dead serious with their own youth development.

Its hard to accept if any side in this world would do the unthinkable, by deceiving the opponent and also the organizer which is the AFC. For me, this is very UNsporting and contradict to the true value of sportsmanship.

To coach Ong Kim Swee, whether our boys were deceived or not, i suggest they need extra session on how to enhance their fighting mentality wherever they play.

We miss the sight of red & yellow wave of SELANGOR FANS

Traditionally known as the most supported side in Malaysian top flight football, passionate and colourful atmosphere guaranted whenever they play especially at home ground...from the day of nostalgic Merdeka Stadium untill to the modern phase of current home ground in world class theatre Shah Alam Stadium.

Supporters from rivals club would definately feel ecstatic if their side could beat Selangor on their own home soil. The collections of past triumph displayed in the trophy cabinet as proof of endorsement on how big success was build around this football institution.

But today, even after the country's return to the region supremacy in football, the traditionally 'Merah Kuning' Selangor fans has distance themself from the terrace. Even winning the super league tittle in 2008, 2009 & 2010 could do little to attract the stay away fans from returning to the stadium.

Some says it is due to Selangor's lack of flair in their performance, and some say failure in Malaysia cup also contribute the decline of supporters to come to the ground. The situation getting worse by this season, where the average attandence is around 5k during match day.

The FAS and Selangor supporter's club should re organize their structure. The FAS should and must to re consider the engagement between themself and the core supporters, especially the official fans club. It must be a two way relationship between FA and the supporters. A relationship that can bolster the team performance on and off the pitch.

Truly, i am not a Selangor supporter, but for the sake of Malaysian football, i want to see improvement or shall i say, the return of the passionate Merah Kuning supporter in supposedly massive number on the terrace again.

The role of domestic football league

Many of us have big dreams with our national team. We always hoping our national team can inspire the entire country with a world class performance.  We always expect the best from what we thought as the best eleven in the country.

But i would like to share with my humble opinion, what are the factors that contributing to a very competitive national team. First, competitive domestic leagues, second - Comprehensive and continuos youth development (Academy or sometimes called centre of excellence), and third - Number of export players.

I would like to emphasize on the first factor, which is the high level of competitive domestic league. In any country, the main reason for establishing a local league is non other than to unearth talented players and also to supply these players to the national team set up. THESE ARE THE MAIN REASON FOR HAVING A DOMESTIC LEAGUE.

No matter how big is the money invested or no matter how popular it is, the football league' role is remain as the main factory for any national team. A very competitive domestic league such as Serie A in Italy and La Liga in Spain as a good example on how the league itself was carefully design in order to support the national team set up.

In some other leagues in the world, they keep on producing outstanding talented young players. These leagues attracted top scouts and constantly monitored by them. Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A in Brazil, Primera Division in Argentina, ligue 1 in France and J league in Japan are some of the leagues that considered as not so glamorous but rich with footballing technicalities. These lesser leagues keep producing and exporting players to a bigger clubs. In long term, the national team will get the benefits as exporting players earn valuable experience in playing abroad.

This is to show how important it is a domestic league for any national team. A succesfull national team is a mirror on a succesfull domestic league. with this factor, i always highlight the importance of a very competitive domestic league that can meet the requirement needed for any national team set up.
